Combined Kurt and Steve's masterpiece with some markings on a classic by Pierre Alfaro to get:

Polikarpov I-16 "White 13"
72.IAP, VVS, SF, Lt. S. Surzhenko, Murmansk area, Summer, 1941

The slogan on the side says: "For USSR!"

I updated it again (from the first verion I posted) with the new type 24 model as it is more similar to the plate I was working with (probably a type 24 uh?), specifically the nose and tail wheel. NOTE: this is optomized for TNT/D3D. The tex file in the 3dfx folder (which will have to be renamed to remove the 3dfx prefix) might work better with other graphic cards and/or drivers.

The following is the original read-me:

-----------------------------------------------

EAW Polikarpov I-16 type 24, unknown V.V.S. unit.

This model represents a typical Soviet V.V.S. Polikarpov I-16 Type 24 aircraft from an unkown unit circa 1941-42.

The I-16 Type 24's were improved Type 10's with some structural strength improvements, a tailwheel instead of a skid, and importantly, it had a more powerful engine, the Shvetsov M-63, offering 1,100 horespower.

I developed this new model of the I-16 at Steve Day's urging, and in partnership with him. I developed the new 3DZ starting with Charles Gunst's original I-16 model. (I still can't fathom how Charles did it without anything but a hex editor) Steve Day is the author of this fantastic skin. The immersive cockpit was made by SteveT.

Unlike the Type 5 and the Type 10 we have already issued, the type 24's were not exported and didn't fly in foreign skies - the Spanish Civil War, China, etc. This was strictly a Russian VVS aircraft and the skins reflect that. Steve has made an anonymous summer and winter skin.

Use with Charles' ECAPanel in the Hurricane slot.

My thanks to Steve Day for the excellent art work, Charles for the original basis 3DZ and ECAP flight model, and Alessandro Borges for his 3dz engineering tools.

Cheers,

Captain Kurt
